In this innovative and vastly entertaining motion picture, which seamlessly blends
animated characters with live action, cartoon character Roger Rabbit (voice by Charles
Fleischer) is accused of murder and turns to a hardboiled detective (Bob Hoskins) for
help. Kathleen Turner is the voice of the beautiful and sultry Jessica Rabbit who stands
by her man Roger. Director Robert Zemeckis creates a wonderful movie for all ages that was
instantly catapulted into the ranks of cinema classics. A small army of animators led by
Richard Williams and assisted by Industrial Light and Magic preformed the meticulous task
of matching animation with camera movement and film noir lighting to give the cartoon
characters a 3-D effect. And admittedly Hopkins had a tough job - interacting with thin
air and floating props (the cartoon characters handle real objects) because the animation
was added after the film was shot. Many times unique film projects like WHO FRAMED ROGER
RABBIT? just don't work in the end, but this director and cast of lovable characters
pulled it off. |
